This shaded courtyard was once an underused space with awkward brick walkways that had become a tripping hazard due to the brick shifting over time from tree roots and improper installation. The layout lacked flow and rhythm, and the client rarely spent time there.
We reimagined the space by carefully removing and reclaiming the original brick to create a new central patio and custom fire pit. Natural bluestone steppers and slate chip pathways were added to guide movement and introduce a sense of ease and structure. The entire courtyard was then planted with low-maintenance, shade-loving plants chosen for beauty and durability.
The transformation turned a forgotten space into a garden retreat. The client now regularly enjoys the area, hosting friends and relaxing outdoors in a space that finally feels welcoming and intentional.
