Public Library & Senior Center

Working in partnership with Roots Down Georgia and the Dekalb County Super District Commissioners, we installed six edible ‘pocket parks’ at five Dekalb County libraries and the Central Dekalb Senior Center. What was previously under unutilized lawn maintained by traditional mowing and blowing law maintenance techniques, was transformed into a new community space with paths for perusing blueberries, blackberries, and edible fruit, garden areas for annual vegetable production and educational programming, and beautiful flowering perennials to support our local pollinators. In total, we planted hundreds of edible, medicinal, and native plants that are now providing the local community with an abundance of healthy, organic food.
